Aalmi Urdu Conference - Day 2

KARACHI: Into its ninth year celebrating Urdu language in all its glory, the annual international conference hosted by Arts Council Karachi continues to remain one of the biggest congregation for writers, poets, intellectuals and enthusiasts of the national language.

Opening with an inaugural session on Faiz Ahmed Faiz, a day earlier, the second day saw a much bigger line up including discussions, book launches and more.  

The eight sessions starting from ten in the morning, in addition to furthering the cause of Urdu and its literature also included an engaging discussion focused on other languages of Pakistan by a number of local and visiting participants.

Appreciating and applauding the conscious shift of the conference to other regional languages famous Urdu dramatist Haseena Moin in attendance urged the concerned creatives and visionaries to take up the cause of promoting the respective literature by translating and spreading the message. A regular participant of the conference, award-winning poet Kishwer Naheed highlighted and praised the importance of conference`s consistent role in elevating Urdu literature despite all odds. 

However, on the other hand, Broadcaster Raza Ali Abdi expressed his concerns over the efficiency of the Urdu conference in achieving constructive impact or real development changes on-the-ground.

The annual carnival of Urdu literati also saw the likes of writer Arif Naqvi from Germany in participation for the first time and a debut session with famous Novelist/ short story writer Mirza Athar Baig on the second day.

Opening on the 1st of December, the four-day International Urdu Conference will continue until the 4th at the Karachi Arts Council.
