Funeral prayers offered for 7 policemen martyred in Lahore blast

LAHORE: Funeral prayers for seven policemen martyred in the Lahore blast was held at the Chairing Cross on Tuesday.

Senior police officers including the Chief Traffic Officer Syed Ahmed Mobin and Senior Superintendent of Police Zahid Gondal were martyred in the incident. Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif and Punjab Governor Muhammad Rafique Rajwana attended the funeral prayers.

The Punjab government announced a day of mourning a day after a bomb blast killed 14 people, including policemen, and injured over 60 at Chairing Cross where a protest by medical store owners was underway. The death toll rose on Tuesday after another person succumbed to their injuries.

Traders’ association will keep markets closed on Tuesday to mourn the deaths.

Hospital officials said that several patients under treatment are in critical condition.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif visited the injured in various hospitals. He directed hospital administration to provide the injured with the best treatment.

At least 13 people, including senior police officers, were martyred Monday when a suicide bomber hit close to the Punjab Assembly in Lahore where hundreds of demonstrators had gathered for a protest, officials said.

Law minister Rana Sanaullah while appearing on Geo News programme Capital Talk said the attacker had been identified.
