Patients suffer as gas supply shut at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital

KARACHI: Sui Sothern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) has stopped gas supply for Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, the largest hospital in Karachi Metropolitan Corporation due to non-payment.

According to a spokesman of SSGCL, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital owes Rs 22 million and the administration of the hospital failed to clear the dues despite the issuance of several notices.

Senior Director Health Services, Dr Muhamamd Ali has accepted that the hospital failed to make the payment because of financial difficulties, but it was unethical to shut the gas supply.

Due to this issue, all operations which were scheduled to take place on Saturday have been postponed and the alternative is purchasing LPG gas.

Patients have complained of facing difficulties due to the gas closure and have to wait for operations to take place.
