With love from Japan: PICU opens up at Indus Hospital, Karachi

KARACHI: Consul General of Japan Toshikazu Isomura inaugurated the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Indus Hospital Karachi on Tuesday.

As a gesture of goodwill, the Japanese government provided US$86,460 funds to establish and equip the PICU of Indus Hospital. It's a gift from Government of Japan to the people of Pakistan, said Isomura while speaking at the inauguration ceremony at the hospital’s premises.

Japanese government is always trying to help out Pakistan’s government and its people, he remarked.

Moreover, the government also established a 150-bed children hospital under the banner of Japan Institute of Cooperation Agency (JICA), which cost Rs1.75 billion. We have established a children hospital in Karachi and one is Islamabad at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, said Isomura.

Now, we have equipped the Indus Hospital's Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, the Consul General added.  Isomura also hoped that the bilateral ties between Japan and Pakistan further strengthen.

Under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), the Japanese government has funded about 350 projects in Pakistan since 1989. This is the 16th GGP project to be implemented by the Consulate General of Japan in Karachi since 2009.
