Emails informing people of receiving huge sums a scam, warns SBP

KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan Tuesday warned of scam emails informing people of receiving large sums and advised masses to not reveal their account numbers or passwords in response, according a SBP press statement.

"This is to inform general public that a scam email from a fake email address created in the name of Governor State Bank of Pakistan is in circulation, suggesting that the recipient has received a large sum of money from a foreign government," the statement read.

The contents of said email, forwarded by some recipients to SBP, appear in the image below:

"To the benefit of public, SBP clarifies that such email has never been issued by any person including the Governor in person, his office or the SBP, and that this is an attempt to defraud general public and defaming and maligning the institution," it said.

The SBP, taking legal recourse against such unscrupulous elements behind such attempts, has already lodged a complaint with the FIA authorities in Karachi.
