An artificial intelligence (AI) system, DeepStack, has successfully beaten professionals at a game of Texas hold ’em poker, according to scientists.

Previously, the AI system, created by researchers at University of Alberta in Canada, had beaten humans in other games such as Chess and Go but always struggled with poker.

“Poker has been a long-standing challenge problem in artificial intelligence,” said University of Alberta professor Michael Bowling as per media reports.

“It is the quintessential game of imperfect information in the sense that the players don’t have the same information or share the same perspective while they’re playing,” he added.

A technique called re-solving allows the AI system to evaluate all possible moves and determine the correct strategy for a particular situation.

The system is taught the significance of all possible options and it treats each move like a mini poker game.

However, the system makes a move after an average of three seconds, which is equivalent to time it takes humans, and it works on a gaming laptop.

Not just games but the possible development can lead to building more robust systems for better strategic planning.
