Balochistan’s got talent: Female calligrapher impresses all with letter writing

QUETTA: Uzma Durrani, a female calligrapher and artist from Quetta, seeks to change the game for future artists from the province.

The self-taught artist followed her passion and learnt painting on her own. “I have worked on more than 36 calligraphy paintings,” she said while speaking to Geo News. “I have also had a passion for art and calligraphy.”

The artist not only excels at blending the art of painting and writing together but focuses on letter writing. She hopes to change the lives of students who face difficulty while writing.

She learnt the art of calligraphy from classes held by the culture department in art galleries. The classes allow young people the chance to learn arts.  

Durrani impressed everyone with her talent during her show at Quetta Girl’s College on Thursday. The show, organised by Today's Women Organisation, was held to commemorate the International Women’s Day, celebrated across the globe on March 8, and set the right example for young girls.

The show was held to give a tribute to Durrani, who followed her passion and carved her own niche. Durrani is also an alumna of the college. She expresses her desire to be able to show her work in art galleries in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.

Speaking on the occasion, National Commission on the Status of Women member Sana Durrani said,” Programmes like these show that girls in Balochistan are no less.”

Indeed, there is no dearth of talent among women of Balochistan, however, they just need to be give a chance to showcase it.
