Police allegedly beat to death a middle-aged Dalit man for throwing coloured powder on an upper caste member on the occasion of Holi in India, according to media reports.

The 52-yeard-old man’s wife said that her husband, Pradeep Choudhary and some other villagers had thrown coloured powder on an upper caste member Rajendra Yadav, in India’s Jharkhand’ Koderma district.

Yadav did not take the gesture lightly, instead, he called the police to take action against the group.

Choudhary’s widow said that police arrived at the spot and started beating her husband until he was unconscious. Police took the victim along with them, she added.

The widow claimed that she and her family rushed to the police station, but the policemen didn’t allow them to see Pradeep Choudhary. She alleged that the police mistreating them, hurling abuses at their caste.

She said that the next day police dropped her husband home in a severely injured state. When they took him to the hospital, the Dalit man succumbed to his injuries.
