KARACHI: Police’s operation against drug peddlers in Pak Colony ended up in chaos following disagreement with area residents.

The police had brought machinery to rid the area of drug dens, however, the area had to be cleaned of encroachments first before the police could proceed with crackdown.

After cleaning the encroachments, the machinery was being moved towards drug dens. However, the drug peddlers had gotten to know about police operation and managed to escape.

On the other hand, shopkeepers in the area started arguing with the police after a wall fell down, according to SSP South, Karachi, Nasir Aftab. The argument escalated quickly and one shopkeeper pushed Pak Colony SHO Abdullah, who in turn fell on the ground.

The SHO got back on his feet and started to beat up the shopkeeper. In a matter of seconds, the area turned into a battle ground with countless slaps and punches.

In order to bring the situation under control, Rangers and police were deployed the site. As many as six suspects were arrested

In order to monitor the area, a police outpost will be established in the area, according to SSP Aftab. “We need to make it clear to the people that drug dens will not be tolerated in the area,” he added.
