ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday released after eight years Abdul Baqi who was accused in 2009 of murdering Muhammad Ali in Balochistan.

A three-member bench of the Supreme Court heard the case on Thursday. During the hearing, the Supreme Court refuted the decisions of the trial and high courts. Both the courts had awarded death sentence to the accused, Abdul Baqi.

However, at Thursday's hearing, the three-member bench noted that there was a contradiction in what the medical report stated and the prosecutor's statement. The court ruled that the prosecutor could not prove the accused guilty, which is was he was released.

In November 2016, Mazhar Farooq who was accused of murder was declared innocent by a three-member bench of the Supreme Court.

The apex court stated that the prosecution had failed to provide sufficient evidence. Declaring that the pistol presented as evidence did not belong to the accused, the Supreme Court ordered the release of Mazhar Farooq.

A trial court had sentenced Mazhar Farooq to death for a 1992 murder in Kasur. The High Court had also maintained the death sentence.
