Pakistan Day celebrated with fervour in Istanbul

ISTANBUL: A wide cross-section of the Pak-Turk community attended the Pakistan Day reception organised by the Pakistan Consulate in Istanbul. The chief guest at the event was Governor Istanbul Vasip Sahin.

President of Istanbul Chamber of Commerce and Industry, head of Pakistan-Turkey friendship council and several parliamentarians attended the function. Top Turkish business and military officials also attended the meeting.

On the occasion, Consul-General of Pakistan Dr Yusuf Junaid narrated the history of Pakistan resolution and its importance in the struggle for independence. He highlighted the multi-level cooperation between Pakistan and Turkey in business, commerce, trade, military education and technological sectors. Junaid also mentioned the acquisition of Pakistan’s Dawlance group by Turkish technical giant Arcelik.

The Consul-General also spoke about the numerous attractive investment opportunities available in Pakistan. He declared fraternal bonds between the people of both countries as more than friendship, calling it “Kardeshlar”, i.e. brotherhood.

Reciprocating the sentiments, the Governor of Istanbul said the strong bonds between the two countries have stood the test of time. He also paid glowing tributes to Allama Iqbal and Quaid-e-Azam. Governor Vasip Sahin also eulogised the services of Pakistanis in Turkish economic development. The ceremony followed giving away of gifts to top business organisations working in Pakistan.
