LAHORE: Bride’s cousin, Iqbal, confessed on Saturday to firing on newlyweds’ car in Lahore as an act of revenge a month after the incident.

On February 13, gunmen fired on the car of a newlywed couple, Imran and Zara, with the bride and groom inside the car in Shafiqabad area. The groom was injured in the incident and rushed to Mayo Hospital. However, the bride survived the attack safe and sound.

Later, the police had arrested the bride for the incident. However, she was later released after 15 days. About the same time, Imran recovered from the injuries and was discharged home.

The police then started to investigate different elements of the case. They arrested Iqbal about two months after, who confessed to orchestrating the attack.

He also revealed that this was a revenge attack as the girl was supposed to marry his elder brother first. The girl’s family had accepted the proposal initially but later refused it.

He also said that attack was meant to harm the bride but the groom was injured instead.

The groom’s sister Farah had told Geo News that minutes after the groom’s car left, two motorcycle-riding armed men opened fire on them.Farah said that one armed attacker started firing near the window seat. “One bullet hit my brother on his face,” she added.
