Huge cache of arms recovered from Karachi neighbourhood

MQM-London sector-incharge Naseem Ajmeri managed to escape during operation

KARACHI: A huge cache was recovered from an empty plot in Karachi’s Ahsanabad during a search operation on Saturday.

The operation occurred after police received credible information regarding presence of weapons in the area however no suspects were arrested during the operation.

SSP Malir Rao Anwar said that when police reached the site unidentified gunmen started firing on them. During the exchange of fire, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London’s (MQM-London) sector-incharge Naseem Ajmeri managed to escape, according to Rao Anwar.

The police managed to seize about 12 light machine guns snipers, 13 Kalashnikovs, 8mm and 9mm pistols and G3 among several rounds of bullets. Explosive materials were also recovered.

The plot had been illegally occupied by MQM London’s sector incharge Mansoor Arif Kaali, said Rao Anwar, adding that raids are being conducted to arrest Naseem Ajmeri.

Last month, paramilitary forces had seized another huge cache of weapons from a store room at the city's Safari Park in a raid conducted on March 21, according to a Sindh Rangers spokesperson.

The raid was conducted on intelligence-based information, the spokesperson stated.

Among the weapons found at the site were anti-aircraft guns, rifles, SMGs, LMGs, hand grenades and snipers. A large quantity of different types of bullets and cartridges were also recovered from the location. 

Before that, Rangers had seized 20 SMG rifles, 2 LMG rifles, 1 G3 rifle, 1 7mm rifle, 3 sniper rifles, 2 .22 bore pistols and over 10,000 rounds of various types of live ammunition during a raid in Azizabad on March 3.
