Man intoxicates, kills lady health worker in Bhakkar: police

BHAKKAR: A lady health worker — who was found dead at a local hotel a few days ago — was intoxicated and then killed with a sharp object, police said on Sunday citing an initial medical report on the incident.

According to the police, the body was found from a hotel in Kaloorkot tehsil of Bhakkar on April 7. The deceased was later identified as lady health worker Shabana Anjum.

She had been missing since six days before her body was found.

The police said her son had filed an FIR against a suspect named Khalid, who was reportedly a friend of the deceased. Police suspect Khalid had taken out a Rs700,000 loan in Anjum's name.

Her son suspected Khalid to have kidnapped Anjum, police said, adding that since she was insisting he paid back the loan, he took her to the hotel to kill her.

The initial medical report suggests Khalid first intoxicated Anjum and then killed her with a sharp object. The police added Khalid hid the body in a cupboard and fled.

The hotel administration reported the case after the smell of the body started filling the hotel room. The body was taken to the tehsil headquarters hospital.

Anjum was a mother of four, police said.
