Five PIA cabin crew members arrested in drugs recovery case

ISLAMABAD: Five people from the cabin crew of Pakistan International Airlines London-bound plane have been arrested, according to sources.

Investigation into the case has started.

Over 20 kilogrammes of contraband was found hidden in the galley of the aircraft at Benazir Bhutto International Airport in Islamabad on May 22, Monday.

Prime Minister's Aviation Adviser Sardar Mehtab Abbasi had ordered an immediate enquiry into the incident and posted Punjab Additional Inspector General Hussain Asghar as the enquiry head.

The airline has also decided that all international flights would be cleared only after thorough checking of the aircraft.

A spokesperson of PIA has informed that the aviation division has issued directives calling for the checking of every international flight by Anti Narcotic Force, PIA Securities, PIA Vigilance, Customs Intelligence and other institutions.

On the other hand, a London-Lahore flight of the same airline was delayed for two hours on Tuesday.
