MOUNTAIN VIEW, California: Google CEO Sundar Pichai kicked off the online giant's biggest event of the year -- I/O Developers' Conference -- by announcing a host of new services and products including new features like Google Lens, Google Assistant for iPhones and Google Play Protect for Android users.

During The Mobile Web: State of the Union (Google I/O '17), Google product management vice president Rahul Roy Chowdhury, shared that the mobile web was gaining momentum from Travel to Ecommerce to Online Publishers.

Jang Media Group was in the enviable position in 2016, when Rahul shared a list of early Google partners and adopters who had launched a progressive web app.

At the time Geo.tv along with the Washington Post was featured in that category. A first for any Pakistani Media Company and a first from Pakistan.

Jang Media Group has had the honour to be showcased two years in a row for their groundbreaking work and 2017 was no exception.

From an early adopter to being continually invested in innovating, the Jang Media Group made it to the list of technology companies being at the forefront of cutting edge technology ahead of many global publishers and brands. Jang Media Group was also featured in the Google Developers summit in 2016 in Amsterdam, where the underlying technical aspects were showcased in the largest developer-centric summit.

Given the market dynamics in Pakistan and in other emerging markets, with the average user being limited by space on their smartphones and patchy networks, the PWA bridges the gap of having up to date information with limited connectivity and being able to access information even in offline mode after an initial visit to the site.

In the Pakistani context, this makes sure that users get bandwidth optimised content, fast and efficiently with lower data charges at the core, driving affordable innovation for all Pakistanis and democratising access to information.
