RAWALPINDI: Journalist bodies on Saturday staged a demonstration here against the attack on Geo News' senior correspondent Azaz Syed.

On Friday, unidentified men riding in a car and a motorbike attempted to kidnap senior journalist Azaz Syed.

The suspects including a masked bike-rider intercepted Syed at Park Road near Banigala police station. They asked him to come out of the car but Syed accelerated his car, speeding towards the Tramrhi Chowk and entered the Shahzad Town police station to take shelter.

The police took up the case and barricaded all the roads but failed to get the suspected kidnappers.

The demonstration, outside Rawalpindi Press Club, was organised by Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), National Press Club, against Friday's attack on Syed.

It was also attended by Awami Muslim League (AML) head Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed.

Addressing the participants, Rasheed expressed his wishes for the well-being of Azaz Syed.

President PFUJ Afzal Butt said the protest was a message to the ones, who want to gag independent media in the country.

The participants called upon the federal government to immediately arrest the perpetrators of the attack on Syed.
