Police in India have arrested 20 Muslims for allegedly celebrating Pakistan’s stunning victory against India in the Champions Trophy finale.

At least 15 people were arrested in the state of Madhya Pradesh on Monday over charges of sedition. They were shouting slogans in favour of Pakistan and bursting crackers, police claimed.

Five more Muslim youth were arrested from Bikaner in Rajasthan state after a complaint was filed by a hardline Hindu organisation, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP).

The accused would be presented before the court on Tuesday.

Pakistan thrashed India by 180 runs to clinch their maiden Champions Trophy title, in a historic victory featuring a quickfire hundred by batting sensation Fakhar Zaman and a magical spell by Mohammad Amir which removed both the Indian openers and skipper Virat Kohli.
