ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has announced compensation money for the families of people killed and those who were injured in the Parachinar blasts on June 23.

On the other hand, media persons were stopped at Chapri check post near Parachinar on Thursday. They were going to cover the protest that has been under way since a week now against suicide blasts and firing on the demonstrators in Parachinar.

However, the protesters said they would go to get the media persons if the latter were not allowed to access them.

Former senator Allama Abid Al-Hussaini said the ban on media was disappointing. "The government is banning the media to conceal its negligence."

The back-to-back explosions occurred on June 23 as people were busy shopping for Iftar and Eid in the Turi Bazaar area, close to a crowded bus terminal in Parachinar, Kurram Agency.

The second explosion took place as people rushed to provide aid and rescue the wounded from the first explosion.

A local official, Nasrullah Khan, had said the first blast detonated as the market was crowded with shoppers.

"When people rushed to the site... to rescue the wounded, a second blast took place," he said.
