PARACHINAR: Director General Inter Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor said on Friday that additional army contingents had arrived in the city as part of enhanced security measures.

At least 75 people lost their lives and over 300 were injured in back-to-back bombings that hit Parachinar on June 23. Grieving locals have protested following the blasts demanding safety and protection for all.

According to the DG ISPR some of the demands of protesters were political while the Chief of Army Staff had ordered to find solutions to security related demands. “Additional army contingents have arrived, safe city project has been announced and better security measures will be taken.”

The DG ISPR informed reporters that the process to fence the border with Afghanistan was underway. “In the first phase the sensitive areas used by terrorists to enter Pakistan would be fenced. While in the second phase the entire Pak-Afghan border would be fenced.”

DG ISPR stressed that the Pakistan Army was committed to providing security to every part of Pakistan. “The security of the entire country and all the people of Pakistan is equal,” he said.

“We are above any sect. We are Pakistanis and Muslims,” the DG ISPR added.

Major General Ghafoor also said a united effort was required to rid Pakistan from the menace of terrorism.
