PESHAWAR: Not let to claim her space as a widow in her husband’s house, Zahida Bibi of Kurram Agency was attacked with simmering oil by her brother-in-law whom she refused to marry, said the victim’s brother.

While talking to Geo News, victim’s brother Kareem Gul said Zahida Bibi’s brother-in-law Muhammad Alam Khan asked for her hand in marriage after her husband was killed by unidentified persons two years ago. She along with her three children was living at her husband’s house, with her in-laws.

But when Zahida Bibi refused Muhammad Alam threw simmering oil on her, leaving her with burn injuries, Gul added. According to him, the woman was attacked in fear that she would turn her children against their paternal relatives. Gul believed Zahida Bibi’s in-laws feared she would tell her children that their father was killed by his relatives, making them grow into their paternal relatives’ enemies. This is the reason why, Gul said, they attacked the woman, in an attempt to kill her.
