Chairman PCB terms performance in Women World Cup ‘disappointing’

Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Shahryar Khan termed the performance of the women cricket team in as disappointing.

In an interview to BBC Urdu, the chairman said that in view of raising the standard of women cricket in the country - new talent must be discovered and taken forward, adding that the team were given special training before the tournament and he is gravely disappointed by the team`s performance.

He said making Sabih Azhar coach of the team at the eleventh hour did not turn out to be a correct decision as he feels that even the players are not happy with him.

Khan said that to raise standard in women cricket, an increase of players in the domestic system is needed.

He added that it is a good omen that girls from as far as Balochistan and Gilgit are coming in the national squad, however still societal issues are a big hindrance for women cricket in Pakistan as parents don’t allow their daughters to play the sport.

He added that if there is a group within the team, he will take action against it.
