LAHORE: A court in the provincial capital on Saturday sentenced the main accused in Khadija stabbing case, Shah Hussain, to seven years in prison.

On May 3, 2016, Khadija Siddiqui was stabbed 23 times by Shah Hussain on Lahore’s Davis Road. The attacker had managed to flee from the scene of the crime but was captured on a mobile camera by an eyewitness.

She was somehow saved by her driver, who had tried to overpower the attacker, forcing him to flee from the scene.

A few days later, Khadija had identified her attacker and got him booked on charges of attempted murder.

Over a year since the horrific incident, Khadija had been awaiting justice and had appealed to society to raise its voice for her.

‘Grateful to Shahzeb Khanzada and others who raised their voice’

Addressing media after finally standing vindicated, Khadija thanked Allah for delivering justice to her. She expressed her gratitude to Shahzeb Khanzada for raising his voice for her cause on Geo News’ programme ‘Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath’ and said justice was made possible with the support of all those who stood by her throughout.

“I thank Allah who saved me from death [on that day] and has now given me justice. I thank all those lawyers who came forward to support me. I thank Shahzeb Khanzada and others who raised their voice for me,” she said.

“It was a big test for me. Today a milestone [has been reached]. [My attacker] forgot that life and death rest in Allah’s hands,” she added.

Speaking exclusively to Geo News, Khadija said that it’s her message to girls all over the country that women are not weak but once they start considering themselves as such, the society around them starts treating them unfairly.

She also said that it was an unbelievable moment for her when the honorable judge said that the charge against Shah Hussain proven.

Khadija also said till strict actions are not taken against people behind such heinous crimes such incidents of violence will keep happening, further adding that she hopes no one bears the ordeal of what she went through.

"Everyone has a right to life - you can’t infringe on that right," she said.
