Maryam Nawaz kicks off NA-120 campaign

LAHORE: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz has started campaign for NA-120 by-election, which is scheduled to be held on September 17.

Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique, addressing media following a consultative session of PML-N leaders earlier today, said Maryam Nawaz will soon be going out into the field as part of the election campaign.

Maryam Nawaz on Saturday chaired a session in Lahore to discuss campaign strategy for the by-election. The session was attended by former information minister Pervaiz Rashid and federal minister Pervaiz Malik, among others, according to sources.

PML-N candidate Kulsoom Nawaz, the former premier's wife, after being diagnosed with cancer, is unable to participate in the campaign and is undergoing treatment in London.

The NA-120 seat fell vacant following Nawaz’s disqualification by the Supreme Court in the Panama Papers case.

Nawaz chairs consultative meeting at Jati Umra

Nawaz Sharif chaired a consultative meeting at Jati Umra earlier today to discuss matters pertaining to the next course of action, following his disqualification by the Supreme Court in the Panama Papers case.

The session was attended by Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq, Law Minister Zahid Hamid, Railways Minister and Lahore MNA Khawaja Saad Rafique, among other party leaders.

According to sources, among the matters discussed was the Sharif family members’ decision to file a review petition against the Supreme Court verdict.

The former premier's children, Hasan, Hussain and Maryam, and son-in-law MNA Capt (retd) Safdar submitted two review pleas in the apex court on Friday, requesting that the July 28 verdict, and its implementation, be set aside till a decision on their review petitions is made.

The strategy regarding the election campaign for NA-120 by-poll was also discussed in the session, the sources said.
