ISLAMABAD: Chairing the 7th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Energy at the PM House, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday said that the government's priority was to increase electricity production in the short term.
The committee was reviewing power generation, distribution and energy crisis in the country.
The PM said that the government seeks to add supplementary power to the national grid by summer.
He said that alternate sources of energy including solar and wind power must also be tapped to reduce dependence on one source. He went on to say that all impediments in the way of speedy generation of electricity should be removed.
The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif and the ministers for Water and Power, Petroleum, Planning, Finance, and Railways. PM s Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi, and Minister of State on Petroleum Jam Kamal were also present.
