PTI seeks support to bring in new opposition leader

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has started making efforts to replace Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah with its own member, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, it emerged on Thursday.

The PTI is seeking political support to make Qureshi the opposition leader before the caretaker government steps in prior to the General Elections 2018.

The caretaker government is set up in consultation between the opposition and present government. 

According to sources, the PTI has also established back door contact with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan.

PTI officials said if all the opposition parties unite against the Pakistan Peoples Party then a new opposition leader can emerge in the Lower House of Parliament.

Sources said the PTI has started approaching different political parties in this regard.

The MQM-P will decide upon the request after holding consultations within party, informed sources.

It is pertinent to mention that in the National Assembly, MQM-P has 22 seats while the PTI holds 27 seats. The PPP has 47 seats in the house, according to the official NA website.
