KARACHI: Nine suspects were taken into custody during various search operations carried out Monday night in different areas of the metropolis, Geo News reported.

A drug-seller was apprehended during a raid in Brigade area last night, police sources said.

The suspect — who was identified as Riaz — was allegedly involved in gang war activities, police revealed, adding that weapons were also recovered from him.

Another suspect was detained during an operation in Clifton late last night, security officials said, adding that the arrestee — who was identified as Sohbat Gopang — had been part of numerous crimes.

In a search operation carried out in Gizri last night, one suspect was arrested and taken for questioning, police sources stated.

The suspect — identified as Saeed — was accused of selling drugs, police officers said, adding that weapons were seized from him as well.

Three suspects were arrested during a raid in Mochko area Monday night, police disclosed, adding that the detainees had been identified as Umair, Saifuddin, and Naved.

Law enforcement agencies (LEAs) revealed that thousands of litres of Irani diesel, as well as gutka, were recovered from the suspects; however, they added that Iqbal — the owner of the fuel — managed to escape arrest.

A search is consequently underway, police said.

Four drug-sellers were taken into custody during an operation conducted last night in Nazimabad No. 2 area, sources disclosed.

Robbery attempt

One robber was detained and another escaped during a police encounter that resulted in an exchange of gunfire in Block 13-D of Gulshan Iqbal, LEAs said.

The arrested suspect was taken into custody in a wounded state following the encounter, police stated, adding that the two were looting citizens when authorities chanced upon them.

Security officials explained the robbers started firing right after they noticed that police was on the scene.

Fugitive arrested… again

A fugitive who had escaped from police custody back in June, this year, was arrested during a search operation conducted in Karachi's Clifton, LEAs said.

The suspect — identified as Sikandar — had managed to flee arrest over the fear of life imprisonment when he was being transferred from the City Court to Landhi Jail on June 3.

In a statement given after being rearrested, suspect Sikandar revealed he had left for Kohat after successfully escaping police custody, but had returned to Karachi Monday morning.

Lyari firing

One person was injured during a random firing incident in Lyari's Bihar Colony area, rescue sources said.

The cause of firing remains undetermined.

Operations in Hyderabad, Vehari, Bahawalpur

At least 50 suspects were detained for questioning after search operations carried out in Jamshoro, Kotri, and Sehwan, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Irfan Bahadur said.

LEAs seized approximately 103 bottles of alcohol during a raid carried out in Bahawalpur — in the Chani Goth police station jurisdiction — late last night, police officers stated.

The raid was aimed at drug-sellers, security officials explained, adding that a case has been registered against the detainees.

One dacoit was shot dead during an alleged police encounter in Vehari's 16-WB area, police sources disclosed, adding that another was wounded during the exchange of gunfire.

The injured suspect was moved to a nearby local hospital, police added.
