KARACHI: Three suspected terrorists were nabbed in a raid from the University of Karachi's staff colony late Wednesday night, sources disclosed on Thursday.

Official sources said that a captured Ansarul Shariah member, Danish Rasheed, tipped the authorities regarding the presence of three terrorists who were spending the night in the staff colony of KU. As a result, members of an intelligence agency carried out a raid and nabbed the three alleged terrorists.

An investigation against the three is under way. Ansarul Shariah came to light earlier this month after the group's involvement was alleged in the Eid-day attack on Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Khawaja Izharul Hassan.

Since then, law enforcement and intelligence agencies have all but disrupted the group's network in Karachi and beyond.

However, a spokesperson of KU denied that any raid took place on the varsity's premises.

Meanwhile, a massive search operation was conducted at Central Jail Karachi on Thursday. More than 100 Rapid Response Force personnel and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) officials conducted the search, which lasted for over four hours.

The CTD SSP said they also questioned some prisoners and searched the barracks holding militants and terrorists. He added that some literature has been recovered from the premises.

The CTD also carried out a raid in the city's Korangi locality today and claimed to have arrested an alleged target killer of a political party.

The suspect was identified as Mohammad Naeem alias Mohajir. A pistol and ammunition were recovered from his possession.
