Suspect in Perween Rehman murder arrested in Karachi

KARACHI: Police arrested on Tuesday one of the suspects in the Perween Rehman murder case from the Manghopir area of the metropolis.

The suspect has been identified as Amjad Hussain Khan, according to the police.

The suspect was absconding in the case registered against him at the Pirabad police station, police added,

Moreover, another case pertaining to possession of explosive material is also registered against the suspect at Manghopir police station.

The Orangi Pilot Project Director and social activist Perween Rehman was gunned down in a targeted attack near the Banaras flyover in March 2013.

Police had arrested the prime suspect in the case, Rahim Swati, on May 7, 2016, during a shootout in Sultanabad area. Rehman was a vocal activist working against land and water mafia in the city.

According to police, the main accused Swati along with five accomplices had murdered Rehman in 2013. However, Swati refused to accept the charges against him.

Two fugitives in the case, Noor Muhammad and Ahsanuddin have been declared absconders by the Anti-Terrorism Court.
