DIG Hamid Shakeel third police officer martyred in Balochistan over four months

QUETTA: Yet another police officer fell prey to terrorism when a suicide blast targetted his convoy on Airport Road Thursday.

DIG Hamid Shakeel Sabir is the third police officer in the past four months to be martyred in a terror attack.

He was a competent and courageous officer of the police force in Balochistan, who was promoted to the post of DIG motor transport and telecommunication only six months back.

Hamid Shakeel was appointed as the DIG motor transport and telecommunication after serving as a superintendent of police, senior superintendent and additional inspector general. As an SP he was responsible for Quetta City and Saddar. After being promoted, Hamid Shakeel served as SSP operations, investigation, traffic and Qilla Abdullah in Balochistan. He has also worked as the AIG administration and development.

Born in Khuzdar, Hamid Shakeel joined the force as a deputy superintendent of police after clearing the exams of Balochistan Public Service Commission in 1988.

His father was an officer in the Pakistan Army and their family was from Murree.

According to a relative of Hamid Shakeel, the martyred officer is related to Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

Hamid Shakeel is survived by three sons.

Besides the DIG, the suicide attack claimed lives of two other officials. Around eight others were said to be injured in the blast.
