KARACHI: Social activist Alamgir Khan announced to end the protest over poor quality education late Sunday.

Khan made the announcement outside the Kalakot Police Station.

"We will go to court tomorrow morning to get our fellows released," he said.

He alleged that his three colleagues, sent to the police station for talks, were taken into custody by the law enforcement agencies.

"The government should not push us to the point where we have to shut down Shahra-e-Faisal and the Red Zone," Khan threatened.

Earlier today (Sunday), the police were able to disperse the mob of protesters after using a water cannon and later tear gassing them after they tried to make way toward the governor house.

The protesters had insisted on speaking to the Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair.

At least ten protesters were taken into police custody for attempting to enter the red zone, the police said. A case was registered against them in the Artillery Maidan Police Station.

The case against Khan and unknown protesters includes violation of the red zone and pelting stones at the police, SP Saddar Tauqeer Nazim said.

Fixit campaign founder was briefly arrested earlier this year on April 2, from outside the Karachi Press Club. According to SSP South, Khan, along with supporters, had attempted to head toward the Chief Minister House to protest against the alleged misconduct of police.

Khan's #Fixit campaign is aimed at covering unsealed manholes in the metropolis. He shot to fame after spray-painting the images of former CM Sindh Qaim Ali Shah on open manholes and along the piles of garbage to draw attention to underlying administrative issues of the city.
