KARACHI: Firefighters were able to douse the fire that erupted in a wood market in Orangi Town area of Karachi, early on Thursday, Geo News reported.

Five fire brigade vehicles were deployed to douse the fire, further fire tenders were sought after the water was insufficient to continue the dousing process.

About two dozen shops exist in the market, of which at least ten have been completely charred.

Residential apartments next to the wood market have been evacuated due to the danger of the fire spreading further.

No casualties have been reported, although items worth millions came under the wrath of the fire and were reduced to ashes.

The fire is said to have been caused by short-circuiting.
