Four terrorists — said to have belonged to the banned outfit Tehrik-e-Taliban — were shot dead Friday night during an exchange of gunfire in Faisalabad, a spokesperson for the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) said.

The suspects — seven in total — were riding motorcycles when they were asked to stop by officials of the CTD, in response to which they opened fire.

While four alleged terrorists were killed by CTD's retaliatory firing, three of their accomplices managed to escape arrest, the spokesperson stated.

Authorities revealed that weapons, as well as explosives worth 3 kilogrammes, were recovered from the deceased terror suspects.

It is unclear if the CTD is conducting a follow-up search for the fugitive terrorists or whether any of the escapees were captured subsequently.

Note: An earlier version of this story had reported that the alleged terrorists have been killed in Lahore. The error is regretted.
