KARACHI: Two people on Monday accepted their involvement in the brutal 'honour killing' of a newly-wed couple in Mominabad area of the metropolis.

In late November, a couple was killed in the name of so-called ‘honour’ on the orders a jirga. Police had arrested nine suspects in connection with the murder.

The suspects who are members of the jirga, Ziaul Haq and Ghulam Rasool, accepted their role in the killing in the court of judicial magistrate (West). According to the suspects, along with them; families of both the couple took part in the murders on the directives of a Jirga on November 22. They added that the head of the jirga along with his sons first tortured the couple and then murdered them.

They further informed that on November 23, the deceased’s body bags were secretly buried in Qaimkhani graveyard. The court ordered to send the suspects to jail after their confession.

The unfortunate couple, 24-year-old Hadi and the woman, had married out of choice which offended their family members who wanted to kill them for bringing disgrace to their honour, Orangi SP Abid Baloch informed Geo News.

"The parents, brothers of couple live in Nawab Colony. When I went to investigate, they confessed that in the jirga both the parties decided to kill the man and woman," said Qasim Hameed, a policeman.

Police further said the deceased woman's father and brother were on the run.

"We didn't kill them. Miskeen (woman's father) murdered them. He sent a message to us that your son ran with my daughter again so I have killed them," father of the man told Geo News.

Authorities started looking out for the couple after the landlord of their house reported to the police about their disappearance and presence of bloodstains in the house.
