KARACHI: A video doing rounds on social media shows a citizen of the metropolis misbehaving with police officials and then speeding away in the city's Sea View area.

The citizen, Shams-ul-Islam, is reportedly a lawyer and can be seen in the video arguing and misbehaving with police officials who were conducting routine checking on Dr Abdul Sattar Edhi road. Islam drove off after the argument.

SSP Javed Akbar said the routine checking was being done in the area to conctrol speeding and incidents of racing in the area.

He added the incident happened on December 10.

Elaborating on the incident, the senior police official said when Islam was stopped by the area's SHO, he lost his temper and started arguing with the law-enforcers.

"The police officials were very professional and courteous in their approach," said the SSP.

However, Islam, when contacted said he was already slowing down due to a speed breaker when the police officials stopped his vehicle by banging on the bonnet.

"How do you know what the background is," questioned the citizen.

He added he was not racing "as there was no competitor" and questioned the presence of police officials at the spot when "the whole of DHA was exposed".

He further claimed that the police officials present at the picket were harassing citizens and there was no wrongdoing on his part.

SSP Akbar, however, said that it was not right for Islam to behave in the manner in which he did and if there were reservations or complaints, Islam should have approached a senior officer and complained.

"His behaviour can be seen in the video, we all can tell whose behaviour was inappropriate."

The police official added that an inquiry into the incident will be conducted and action will be taken against those responsible.
