BAHAWALPUR: An undertrial prisoner, who was seeking treatment at Bahawal Victoria Hospital, escaped from the hospital premises, Geo News reported Wednesday.

The murder suspect, identified as Muzaffar Dil, was imprisoned at Bahawalpur’s Central Prison and was brought to the hospital for treatment on March 3.

The prisoner was admitted to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) ward of the hospital.

Following the escape, the four police officers deployed for the prisoner’s security were arrested and an investigation is under way.

The police said that the suspect was a resident of District Lodhran.

On June 15, 2017, two members of banned militant outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi managed to escape Karachi’s Central Jail.

The two under-trial prisoners, Sheikh Muhammad alias Firon and Ahmed Khan alias Manako, were present in the jail’s judicial complex for a hearing when they managed to escape.

The suspects were arrested by the Counter Terrorism Department in 2013 over their involvement in dozens of targeted killings.

They are yet to be re-arrested.
