Bara Bazar (Bara Market) located in Bara Tehsil in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is known all over the country for the sale and purchase of imported goods. The market was the centre of attraction for people interested in imported items at reasonable prices

The Bazar went into the control of Taliban militants from 2002-09.

“The rehabilitation is ongoing. Over 3000 shops have reopened. The military operation has brought back peace in the area,” said a resident of the area.

The security forces conducted a military operation in the area in 2009-14 to weed out Taliban militants. The market which catered to over 10,000 shops was demolished during the operation.

With the rehabilitation in the process, the traders and shopkeepers are rebuilding the market on self-help basis.

“Electricity and water are the prime issues of the Barra Bazar,” said a shopkeeper while speaking to Geo News.

The people of the area and the shopkeepers maintained that with the due cooperation of the authorities the glory of Bara Bazar can be returned as the people want to capitalize on the gains given by the security forces to them.
