ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, who has been sentenced to seven years in jail in Al-Azizia steel mills corruption case, will be provided better class in prison, said an official press release on Monday.

According to the home department Punjab press statement, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif will be given a mattress and newspapers in the jail room.

The former prime minister will also get two chairs and a table in the jail, moreover, he will have permission to use utensils from home.

In the notification, it was said that Nawaz Sharif will get the facilities under the Pakistan prison rules 1978, rule no 242.

An accountability court on Monday sentenced former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to seven years in prison in Al-Azizia Steel Mills corruption reference, while acquitting him in the Flagship Investment reference.

In a short verdict announced today, the court said there was concrete evidence against the former premier in the Al-Azizia reference, and that he was unable to provide a money trail in the case.
