Vigil held for slain leader Ali Raza Abidi in Karachi
The mother of Abidi announced that a foundation would be set up to honour her late son

KARACHI: Hundreds of people turned up at a vigil held Friday night at the Karachi Press Club (KPC) to commemorate slain political leader Ali Raza Abidi.
Among the attendees were former Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) convenor Dr Farooq Sattar, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, and other party leaders.
At the vigil, the mother of Abidi, who was assassinated in a targetted gun attack on December 25, announced that a foundation would be set up to honour her late son.
Shah, the chief minister also present at the vigil, had said earlier a "significant arrest" was made with regard to Abidi's assassination. Investigative sources, on the other hand, noted that the murder of Abidi and the Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) workers could have been perpetrated by the same group.
According to sources, progress has been made in the Abidi assassination case as one person was arrested from the airport, and, on his indication, two others were detained in Gulistan-e-Johar.
The CM Sindh, alongside a delegation of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) representatives, met with Syed Ikhlaq Abidi, the slain ex-MQM-P leader's father, at his residence to offer condolences and assured him that his son's murderers would soon be caught.
Separately, MQM-P chief Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui has penned a letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan to request foolproof security for leaders of the MQM-P, members of the assemblies, and municipal representatives amid fears of further targetted attacks.
In addition, Dr Farooq Satter met with Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Ali Shallwani and requested security for at least 21 leaders.
