SUKKUR: A man killed his elderly stepfather over his greed for inheritance here in the town's Saleh Pat locality, authorities confirmed Thursday night after the murderer's confession.

According to police, Muhammad Nawaz had shot dead his stepfather, Datar Dino, 70, while he was asleep during the night and then blamed the entire ordeal on his opponents.

Nawaz, who had explained to police that his stepfather was killed when assailants associated with his opponents attacked his home, had gone as far as to file a first information report (FIR) and naming his enemies as the perpetrators of the crime.

However, his attempt to sidetrack the police went sideways when, during questioning as part of the investigation, he confessed to murdering Dino over a two-acre land.

Police said they had recovered Nawaz's weapon as well.

Nawaz, who was brought up by Dino from a young age and was married to his stepfather's daughter, was handed over to police in physical remand by the court till January 12.
