ISLAMABAD: Former president Asif Zardari on Monday said that National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman should appear before the National Assembly to answer questions related to cases against politicians.

Speaking on the floors of the National Assembly, Zardari questioned why politicians are asked to appear before NAB when it should be vice versa.

“…it is not just in the interest of PPP but also you [to keep a check on NAB and the cases against politicians it takes,” the Pakistan Peoples Party co-chairman warned the government.

Vowing to continue working for democracy, he added that it is incumbent on political leaders to keep fighting for democracy and respect for parliament.

In a jibe at young treasury members, Zardari said that he is also ready to train them in order for them to be prepared to ask and answer the right questions in the House.

“[Faisal] Vawda may not have anything to do with water or dams but it would be good if he comes [to Parliament] prepared’,” he said.

He also implored the government to take serious steps to address the economy, but added that the current state of affairs and government’s “haphazard decisions” are worrying.
