LAHORE: The brother of one of the men shot dead in Sahiwal ‘encounter’ on Monday refuted the Punjab government’s claims of contacting him and his family.

Speaking to Geo News, Jalil, the brother of Khalil who was shot dead along with his wife and 13-year-old daughter, said, “The Punjab minister of law claimed that he contacted us, however, nobody has reached out to us as yet.”

“It was announced that we will be given Rs20 million as compensation but we don’t want money. We want our loved ones back,” he added.

He further questioned, “How can someone be termed a terrorist without any investigation? We are not hopeful that we will get justice but want the truth to surface.”

On Saturday, four people – including three members of a family – were killed in an alleged encounter in Sahiwal. CTD personnel said they had killed a local commander of militant organisation Daesh and three others in the operation. Eyewitnesses, however, disputed the claim and said the people in the car did not fire at officials, nor were any explosives recovered from the vehicle.

Following the incident, Prime Minister Imran Khan vowed swift action against the CTD personnel if found guilty by a joint investigation team formed to probe the alleged encounter.
