KARACHI: A train slated for departure from Karachi to Lahore experienced a delay, leaving passengers stranded on the platform in bitter cold for nine hours Sunday night.

Passengers, which included the elderly, children, women, and the sick, slammed the government as well as the railway administration for the delay.

Stranded in the harsh weather at the metropolis' Cantt Station, the furious passengers demanded real change instead of just promises.

"The claims and promises made by [the federal minister for railways] Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed are only that — just words and no action," said an annoyed passenger.

The Shah Hussain Express had to leave from Cantt Station on Sunday at 7PM but neither did the train arrive at the station on time nor were the worried passengers informed by the railway administration of the reason behind the delay.

The "leaders of change have made a U-turn in railways as well", said another passenger.

According to railways sources, the train was not on time as it had left late from Lahore, and then, on Drigh Road railway station, it encountered a power failure.
