LAHORE: Three suspects were taken into custody after an eye specialist doctor at a private hospital went missing and was later found dead in a dirty drainage line, Geo News reported Sunday night.

According to police, three men had kidnapped Dr Waseem — their ophthalmologist friend who worked at a private hospital — for money, killing him when they had extracted enough money and later dumping his body in a drainage line in Shera Kot neighbourhood.

Police and rescue personnel were able to recover the body on the indication of the detained suspects, who were found after authorities traced them through the mobile phone records of the late ophthalmologist who was a resident of the Nasirabad area.

The suspects confessed to their crime during questioning and admitted that the deceased doctor was their friend. They said the late eye specialist was planning to buy clinic for Rs4 million and that they were "eyeing his investment" so they "decided to kidnap him", withdrew some money from the victim's account via an automated teller machine (ATM), killed him, and disposed of his body afterwards.

The family of the deceased, who was kidnapped on January 22, had filed a first information report (FIR) with the police against unidentified persons.

The body, consequently, has been sent for post-mortem and the police have decided to conduct polygraph test on the suspects.
