SAHIWAL: The brother of one of the deceased in the Sahiwal encounter on Thursday challenged the joint investigation committee (JIT) pertaining to the case.

In a petition submitted to the Lahore High Court (LHC), late Khalil's brother, Jalil, noted that he does not expect justice from the Sahiwal encounter JIT and claimed that the inspector-general of police (IG) for Punjab was trying to save police officers and the Counter Terrorism Department's (CTD) officials.

Apart from IG Punjab, Jalil named the chief minister of Punjab, Usman Buzdar, as well as the federal government as parties in his petition.

The petitioner said the issue that IG Punjab illegally formed a JIT despite lacking the authority to do so.

The Senate Standing Committee, on the other hand, has also ordered the JIT to halt its investigations.

The petition further requested that the LHC judges form a judicial commission in accordance with the Punjab Tribunals of Inquiry Ordinance, 1969, and the JIT be stopped from continuing its probe and labelled illegal.
