KARACHI: The body of a two-and-a-half-year-old girl, who was drowned by her mother, was found near Karachi’s Do Darya on Tuesday.

According to Sea View Police, the mother drowned her infant daughter on Monday evening near Farhan Shaheed Park in Defence Phase VIII.

“Following the incident, police had arrested 28-year-old Shakila Rashid after residents identified her,” SSP South Pir Muhammad Shah said.

Residents had informed the police that a woman had drowned her infant daughter in Sea View, SSP South said. “This morning, we found Anam’s body near Emaar Apartments at Do Darya,” Pir Muhammad Shah added.

SSP South said that a murder case has been registered against the woman and she has been arrested. “She will be presented before a court today to seek her remand,” SSP South further said.

Meanwhile, SSP Investigation Tariq Dharejo said, “The woman in her statement said that her husband kicked her out of her house without any reason one month ago. Her father did not allow her to come back to his house either and as she had nowhere to go, she decided to get rid of her daughter and commit suicide.”

Shakila is a resident of Sultanabad Colony in Golimar and her husband works at a private hospital in Karachi, according to police.
