LAHORE: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was shifted to Jinnah Hospital from Kot Lakhpat jail on Friday.

Jail officials brought the former premier, who is currently under arrest in connection to the Al-Azizia reference, to the hospital.

A day earlier, the Punjab government allowed shifting of the former prime minister from the central jail, Lahore, to Jinnah Hospital.

The Punjab home department has declared the private ward of Jinnah Hospital a sub-jail for the duration of Nawaz’s stay there.

Various medical tests of the former premier will be carried out at the hospital.

Nawaz was shifted to Kot Lakhpat jail on February 7 after he was treated at Services Hospital for five days.

Meanwhile, Nawaz’s personal physician Dr Adnan expressed displeasure over the government’s decision to shift the former premier to Jinnah Hospital.

“We are not satisfied that he has been brought to Jinnah Hospital,” the former premier’s personal physician said. “Nawaz needs to be admitted in a cardio unit for 24 hours,” he added.

Dr Adnan further said, “I will comment further after speaking to the medical superintendent and principal.”
