KARACHI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) found various foreign currencies and gold during a search of Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani and his family's lockers, sources said on Tuesday.

"Saudi riyals, UAE dirhams, pound sterling and US dollars were found in the Durrani family's lockers at a bank located in Defence's Khayaban-e-Shamsheer," sources said. "Saudi riyals and UAE dirhams amounting to over Rs3 million were found in the lockers."

"$4,400 and 4,200 pounds were also discovered in the lockers," the sources added.

A copy of the NAB documents with details of items found during the search has been obtained by Geo News. As per the documents, gold items such as chains, rings, watches, bangles, bars, necklaces, medals and buttons were also found during the search.

NAB officials arrested Durrani, who was under investigation in three cases pertaining to illegal appointments, accumulating assets beyond means, and embezzlement of funds, from a private hotel in Islamabad on February 20.

NAB had initiated three separate inquiries against Durrani last year for allegedly owning assets beyond means, illegally recruiting 352 individuals on various government positions and embezzlement of funds for the construction of the MPA Hostel and construction of the new Sindh Assembly building.
