ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Asad Umar said Tuesday his government would roll out a new tax amnesty scheme ahead of the budget for the individuals to declare their local and foreign assets under the scheme.

Speaking to newsmen here, the minister said the trade fraternity was demanding tax amnesty scheme and that its features were being prepared. He said he was making all decision with regard to the country's economy.

Commenting on restoration of Pakistan Steel Mills, Umar said a restoration plan would be tabled in the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) meeting on Monday.

He said he saw the proposed plan for restoration of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) but he suggested some amendments in it. "The drafting of a new plan will take some time," the minister added.

Umar further said the power tariff is determined by National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) and it would still be determined by the regulator.

He also said the government would end withholding tax on non-filers in the next budget.

Speaking about war of words between two party heavyweights, the minister said the Supreme Court barred Jahangir Tareen from holding a public office, not from breathing.

He said the prime minister could summon anyone in cabinet meetings and Tareen was also present at cabinet meetings with the premier's approval.
