LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif said Tuesday night he was going to London to see his grandchildren and to undergo a medical check-up.

Sharif, who is the incumbent leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, explained that he was unable to leave earlier to his name being in the Exit Control List (ECL). He would return to Pakistan soon, he added.

"God has blessed my younger son with a boy and, my elder one with a girl 20 years after his marriage," he said, adding that his granddaughter had to undergo a major heart surgery a week after her birth but he was unable to be there for her or meet his grandson since his name was in the ECL.

"Now that I have been awarded bail by the court and my name has been removed from the ECL, I'm travelling to see my grandchildren and get my medical check-up done," the former chief minister of Punjab said.

"I will return to Pakistan very soon."
